Why - A Food and More Project?

Food and farming has a large influence on our society and the environment and is also massively influenced by society and the environment, for example:

Food keeps us alive
Food is big business
Food production is affected by climate, for example flooding, drought, extreme cold.....
Food is dependent on many natural resources from oil to water
Food creates large amounts of waste
Food quality is important for our health
And
Many people die because they do not have enough food
And
So much food is wasted

In a world which is coming under increasing pressures from possible threats such as climate change, increasing energy costs, population growth...and more then perhaps we have to look at how we “do food”

In the UK, the food and farming sector has become weaker and less diverse, year on year, for many decades. We have become more dependent on imports every year, and combined with energy and economic insecurity, our food security position could weaken to the level that we might struggle to feed ourselves in the UK in the near future.

Food&More will reverse many of the declines and will use food to grow and strengthen communities – rural and urban.

These are just a few reasons why the Food and More Project is needed.
